Assessing Approaches for the 2020 Census Race & Ethnicity Estimates
Join us virtually for an insightful discussion on the substantial rise in the multiracial population estimate between the 2019 American Community Survey and the 2020 Census. This event will delve into the factors behind the increase, exploring the impact of changes in Census methodology and racial classification practices. We will critically assess the federal policy shifts and propose a new approach to race and ethnicity questions that emphasizes self-identification.

Speakers:
Paul Starr is professor of sociology and public affairs and Stuart Professor of communications and public affairs, at Princeton University. He is also co-founder and co-editor of The American Prospect magazine and a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction, the Bancroft Prize in American History, and other awards for his books on the history of medical care, the development of the media, and other subjects.
Christina Pao is a PhD student in Sociology and Social Policy at Princeton University and is affiliated with the Office of Population Research
